Dr. Brian Weiss and "Many Lives, Many Masters"

By Dr. Thomas Paul, Founder of Past Life Therapy Center® (also known as Past Life Regression Center®)

Dr. Brian Weiss, a popular past life regression and reincarnation therapy advocate, has undoubtedly inspired people to learn more about regression therapy. For this contribution, we are appreciative of his efforts. However, his techniques are likely ineffective for most individuals, as his approach does not adequately address the inner workings of the unconscious mind. His methods lack the clinical structure necessary for resolving the underlying confusion within the unconscious mind, which is a disservice to an already widely misunderstood field.

Although Brian Weiss’ Many Lives, Many Masters has been a fashionable book, it was formerly offered through the Past Life Therapy Center® Bookstore due to consumer interest. We do not endorse this book or similar works by retired therapist Brian Weiss. His books and self-hypnosis past life regression CDs have nevertheless introduced many people to the concept of past lives and reincarnation, and for that reason, they have contributed to public awareness of the subject.

We do not believe you should “unlearn feelings,” as stated on the author’s website, or that one should sell self-hypnosis past life regression CDs and then state in the FAQ that customers should “try not to get frustrated” when they do not work. Healing begins when you root negative emotions to their unconscious sources and express your feelings, including frustration, anger, fear, and other difficult emotions, rather than attempting to “unlearn” or avoid them through meditation, traditional hypnosis, or affirmations.

Validating your feelings and releasing emotions that may have been negatively absorbed through past-life, prenatal, birth, surgical, and other unconscious experiences can be an important part of the therapeutic process. Furthermore, we disagree with Dr. Weiss’ view that the “evolution of the soul is different from the evolution of the body.” In our approach, the soul and unconscious mind—which communicates with the body in the present life and future incarnations—are integral to the process of resolution and personal evolution. As unconscious emotional material is brought into awareness and resolved, greater internal harmony may be achieved between the mind and body.

His past life regression therapy is based largely on affirmations before confusion is resolved within the unconscious mind. From our perspective, this approach can result in failure because the underlying unconscious material remains unresolved. Learn the truth about Dr. Brian Weiss, his celebrity fascinations, and his misunderstanding about hypnosis vs. de-hypnosis. Unfortunately, many of Dr. Weiss’ theories are in direct conflict with what we consider to be fundamental principles of mind-body healing. Dr. Weiss is retired and does not refer therapists.

Our Review of Many Lives, Many Masters

Many Lives, Many Masters by Brian Weiss is essentially a romance novel, a genre that has historically been among the best-selling categories of books. That said, if Brian Weiss’ books have encouraged you to recognize that unresolved past lives may influence your present and future, or have directed you to pursue our most effective therapy process, then we are grateful.

Our approach differs fundamentally from methods that attempt to resolve unconscious material through affirmations, meditation, traditional hypnosis, or other techniques without first identifying and resolving the underlying sources of confusion. Healing does not begin by attempting to “unlearn feelings” or by using affirmations to replace unresolved emotional material. Instead, the underlying unconscious sources of those feelings must be identified and resolved. Feelings such as frustration, anger, fear, and other difficult emotions are not problems to be unlearned; they can provide important information about unresolved experiences within the unconscious mind.

It is our experience that the vast majority of therapists across the healing arts and mental health professions have not mastered how the unconscious mind functions or fully understood the effects of leaving unconscious material unresolved. Consequently, many therapeutic approaches address only the surface manifestations of a problem rather than its underlying roots. When the unconscious sources remain unresolved, results may be delayed, incomplete, and short-lived.

The Netherton-Paul De-Hypnosis Method

Dr. Thomas Paul is a wellness facilitator who enables individuals to access and resolve unconscious roots of challenges, whereas most modalities may only scratch the surface. For lasting changes, a comprehensive use of de-hypnosis is implemented to thoroughly address unconscious states of confusion, including past lives, prenatal and birth experiences, surgical experiences, and emotional traumas.

We highly recommend reading Past Lives Therapy by Dr. Morris Netherton with Dr. Thomas Paul, Founder of Past Life Therapy Center® (also known as Past Life Regression Center®). Learn more about the Past Life Therapy Center® De-Hypnosis Method here.
